Description
The monument is a standing boulder, placed on a laying boulder. A brass plaque is attached at the front of the standing part. It carries the story and the names of the crew that manned the bomber that crashed here in 1944.

This is monument #6 in the pillar project of the 'Broken Wing ’40-’45'Foundation', ment  to commemorate and honor people who committed themselves to the cause of winning WWII in the airwar over Vaassen. In the future a historical bicycle route will be planned along these markers related to the airwar during WWII.
History
In the early hours of 22 June 1944,  Lancaster LL840, VN-M of RAF 50 Squadron  was  on the return from a bomb mission to Scholven/Buer (synthetic oil plant). The aircraft fell victim over Oene to a German nightfighter, caught fire and crashed at Oenerbroek. The crew's fate was as follows:

- W/O. J.F. Lane and F/Sgt. F.H. Shorter lost their lives in the crash. They are buried at the General Cemetery in Epe. 
- F/Sgt. A.G. Beresford and Sgt. P.F.J. Hayes baled out early and were taken POW. They spend the time until liberation 
   in a Luftwaffe-Stammlager in Poland; 
- S/Ldr. T.B. Cole, F/Lt. J. Craven and F/O. E.J. Blakemore baled out over Oenerbroek.
   
Cole was transferred to the police and taken prisoner. Craven and Blakemore were taken care of by the underground and after wandering about several hidingplaces eventually returned via the liberated province of Brabant safely to their homeland.
